Trastevere takes its name from trans Tiberim: “across the Tiber” and has long been one of Rome’s most authentic, lived-in neighbourhoods.
On this food tour, you’ll cross the river and dive into a world of classic Roman comfort food, historic piazzas, and some of the city`s most loved local spots. Food Stops on the Trastevere Food Tour
Trapizzino
Your first stop is at Trapizzino, created by chef Stefano Callegari. This iconic Roman street food combines crispy pizza dough with slow-cooked traditional fillings, folded into a warm, handheld sandwich.
You’ll also try supplì: Rome’s famous fried rice balls made with rice slowly cooked in tomato sauce and then fried until crispy.
Essenza – Wine Bar & Gourmet Bites
At this cozy local wine bar, you’ll enjoy a selection of cured meats, cheeses, and gourmet specialties. Tastings will include prosciutto, Parmigiano Reggiano, pesto alla Genovese DOP, aged balsamic vinegar, and delicious truffle treats such as crostini with white truffle cream or pecorino with truffle honey.
To spoil your taste buds even further, the gourmet bites are paired with Morellino di Scansano DOCG, one of the best Italian wines.
Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere
Between tastings, you’ll enjoy a relaxed walk through the heart of Trastevere, stopping in Piazza di Santa Maria, one of Rome’s most beautiful and lively squares, where locals gather day and night.

In Trastevere you`ll stop at one of our favourite local restaurants Pasta e Vino or Trattoria Lungaretta, both in the heart of the neighbourhood and loved by locals for their traditional Roman cooking.

I just realized today, that it had failed to post. The class was in October 2024. Highly recommended! This was the BEST class! Giulia was wonderful!! We personally had an issue with our transportation through Florence and thought we were going to be too late. Giulia called me and helped us get to the right spot. She immediately put us at ease and the class was underway! The other participants were so understanding and easy going! We laughed, drank Prosecco, made tiramisu, made pasta dough, then rolled it out using a pasta maker. We made two types of pasta, a ravioli and tagliatelle. We sat down while the pastas were prepared and just enjoyed everyone’s company. It was such a fun group of people and our fearless leader, Giulia was aMaZiNg!! She had us laughing and joking around. The food was served and we were all surprised at how great it tasted! I can not wait to try this at home. I’m sure without Giulia guidance and sweet stories of her grandmother it won’t be the same, but you better believe I will be trying!!
